Avis has been renting cars in Lebanon since 1964, which makes it the oldest car rental company in the country and the first Avis licensee in the Middle East. Six decades later it runs a fleet of around 2,000 vehicles, the largest in Lebanon, from 7 branches that include a counter at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport.

This page sets out what Avis Lebanon offers and why travellers and residents choose it, using figures published by the company and by independent travel platforms. Reservations are made on the official website, www.avis.com.lb (opens in a new tab).

Reasons

Why choose Avis in Lebanon

  1. 01

The oldest car rental company in Lebanon

Avis opened its first office in Beirut in 1964, before any other rental brand, and has operated continuously ever since - through every chapter of the country's recent history. Avis Budget Group has recognised that longevity with Long Service Awards for 50, 55 and 60 years.

  2. 02

The largest fleet in the country

Around 2,000 vehicles, from economy hatchbacks to SUVs, people carriers, hybrids and prestige models such as Range Rover, Jaguar and BMW. A fleet this size means availability in high season and a genuine choice of vehicle class.

  3. 03

Seven branches and an airport counter

Pick up at Beirut airport or at branches in Beirut, Sin el Fil, Zouk, Tripoli and Tyre. One-way rentals between branches and delivery to hotels can be arranged through the reservation team.

  4. 04

    24-hour assistance and in-house maintenance

Round-the-clock breakdown assistance across Lebanon, backed by the company's own maintenance facilities that service every vehicle type using manufacturer-recommended genuine parts.

  5. 05

    Award-winning service

Avis EMEA Licensee of the Year in 2016, Lebanon's Leading Car Rental Company every year from 2018 to 2025, a Rentalcars.com Customer Favourite award for the airport branch in 2024 and a Booking.com Traveller Review Award (8.9/10) in 2025.

  6. 06

A global brand with worldwide coverage

Avis operates around 5,500 locations in some 165 countries across every continent, and Avis Lebanon is part of that network. Book from anywhere on avis.com or avis.com.lb, use your Avis Preferred number and airline miles, and rely on the same international service standards and global customer care you would get renting in Paris, Dubai or New York.

  7. 07

    International standards, local team

ISO 9001 certified since 2016, with uniformed, multilingual chauffeurs for airport transfers and chauffeur-driven hire, and a local reservation team reachable by phone, email and WhatsApp.

Background

Avis Lebanon: history

Avis entered Lebanon in 1964 through a franchise agreement with Halim Kurban, whose travel and transport group, founded in 1952, remains the licensee today through its affiliate MECAR (Middle East Car Rental). The first office opened in Beirut, making Avis the first car rental company established in Lebanon and the first Avis franchisee anywhere in the Middle East.

The licence has stayed family-owned and operated throughout. In 1998 Avis Europe recognised the business with an Outstanding Achievement Award, and in 2016 Avis Budget Group named Avis Lebanon its Licensee of the Year for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, citing financial growth measured against local conditions, customer service and alignment with the brand.

In 2017 MECAR took part in the first rental fleet securitisation in Lebanon and the Levant, a USD 25 million financing structure that at the time was described as the largest asset-backed securitisation executed out of Lebanon, and which funded further fleet growth.
